The Sturmgewehr 44 (StG 44) assault rifle equipped two platoons per Volksgrenadierkompanie, delivering formidable short-range power. They also received numerous Panzerfaust anti-tank weapons, effective against Allied tanks at close quarters. The MG42 machine-gun remained crucial, with two in each assault rifle-armed Sturm platoon's third squad.
